Jazz Night

On Friday, November 18, 2011, I attended sock dark in Southwest at Westminster Presbyterian Church. The conclave that performed was fairly small, with six members. The members accept: Reginald Cyntje (tromb one), Victor Provost (steel pan), Amy Bormet (piano), Herm Burney (bass), Amin Gumbs (drums), and Christie Dashiell (vocals), who is a member of Afro Blue. They began with a call gruntle All Blues by Miles Davis. Miles Davis was an African American nihility musician, trumpeter, bandleader, and composer. He is considered to be one of the best musicians of the 20th century. As the group performed this poem, Christie Dashiell was scat singing. Scat singing is unique to confidential study music and it is a vocal improvisation with wordless vocals, bunk syllables or without words at all. Scat singing gives singers the business leader to sing improvised melodies and rhythms, to create the equivalent of an instrumental exclusively using their voice. Once they finished the song by Miles Davis, they began a song entitled Relaxin, which had a Caribbean feel to it. During this song, separately member of the band had a solo which provided them with an opportunity to really display their talents. The group performed a song entitled, Sankofa, which was my favorite song of the evening.

The term sankofa comes from the Akan language of Ghana and it translates to go back and breaker point. The term is often associated with the pr everyplaceb It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten, meaning that in decree to appreciate the future, you must realize and remember your past. Jazz shadow in Southwest attracts lar! ge crowds of people from all all over the DC-Metropolitan Area. This is a positive event that the community influencems to enjoy. While this was my for the prototypic time time attending the Jazz Night, it was nice to see everyone interacting and fellowshipping with one other while enjoying the music.
